Did you ever watch Andromeda? I am not suggesting it: it was VERY quality inconsistent. But if you can get through that the premise was dark enough that you would have enjoyed it.I watched a couple episodes a few years ago on the Sci Fi Channel. It did not hook me. From little I saw, the quality of it reminded me of Earth: Final Conflict in the sense Majel Roddenberry was clearly going through her late husband’s notes and selling off the rights to any half-baked idea Gene Roddenberry ever had. Considering how many of his fully baked ideas are suspect, you can imagine how I feel about Andromeda.
Granted, I have seen very little of it, but literally every person who has recommended it to me as done so in the same way you have--it is not that great, it went down hill quickly, but it is dark and edgy. I spent a lot of time in the world of comic books where dark and edgy in the post frank Miller The Dark Knight returns was synonymous with good. That was rarely enough to float my boat. Grim and gritty for the sake of grim and gritty is not enough.
If you are subtly asking if I might revierw Andromeda some day, I doubt it. It would be so far down the list of potential shows I would watch, it might as well not even be on the list at all. A fan may make a sales pitch if desired, but my feelings above have to be refuted and even then, patience, patience, and more patience. There is a lot of better stuff out there to be cover first.
